| Short brief of Unity Through Population Service (UTPS) Unity Through Population Service (UTPS), a non-government, non-profitable voluntary organization, was established in the early part of 1983 to promote living standard of illiterate, downtrodden and less privileged people of the community by providing Family Planning, MCH, Literacy, General Health treatment and other social services. The ultimate goal of UTPS is to help promote individual developments through creation of self employment opportunities, population control, extended educational facilities, micro credit and other services to the community people. UTPS obtained registrations from the Social Welfare Department (both local and foreign), Family Planning Department and NGO Affairs Bureau. The concept of establishing UTPS was visualized by its Founder Mrs. Rokeya Zaman, now working as Executive Director. The Asia Foundation (TAF) Dhaka came forward to provide financial assistance to UTPS in April 1984 for health, MCH and Family Planning activities and continued up to 1997. After this, UTPS received funds from John Snow Incorporated (JSI)/ Pathfinder International (NSDP) and Urban Primary Health Care Project (UPHCP) for providing ESP. Besides these, UTPS received funds from HASAB, Action Aid- Bangladesh and UNICEF for STI/RTI/HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness program. UTPS also got financial assistance from GoB for non-formal education. UTPS has been implementing at present two UPHCP Project at DCC, Zone-7 in ward # 10,11,16 & 41 and Zone-10 and the periphery area Uttar Khan, Dhakkan Khan, Satarkul, Berayet through 72 Out Reach Center, 12 PHCC & 2 CRHCC. Out of this UTPS implemented FP, MoWch and education program at Savar, Manikgong, Tongi, Mymensing, Durgapur & Vhola. Goal: The goal of UTPS is to improve the socio-economic conditions of less privileged population of the catchment areas particularly the women folk providing health, MCH, FP, education services and income generation program. OBJECTIVES: The major objectives of UTPS are as follows: To support and promote individual developments specially of the women folk leading to family welfare. To organize and promote reproductive health, child health and other health related activities. To reduce vulnerability to HIV/AIDS/STD among community people. To establish institutions for training of volunteers, distressed women, less privileged people for development in order to help develop a better living for the community people. To establish family welfare clinics, hospital & other similar welfare institutions in the urban, sub-urban and rural areas of the country for extending facilities for welfare services including family planning. To eradicate illiteracy from the project areas giving special emphasis on adult education and hard to reach children. To create opportunities for self employment of the unemployed & underemployed people particularly the women and to establish women?s rights in the society. To create congenial atmosphere for poverty elevation providing free health and education services to the poor and poorest of the poor people of the community. Present Activities: 2 Partnership area of 2nd Urban Primary Health Care Project of Local Govt. Division of LGRD&C Minstry. We are providing 1. ESP plus services funded by GOB, ADB, SIDA, DFID & UNFPA. 2. Tuberculosis Control Program funded by GFATM. 3. HIV/AIDS Prevention Program funded by GOB, ADB, SIDA & DFID. 4. Eye Care Services funded by ORBIS International. Population Coverage: 6 Lakh (Approx.) Total Staff: 500 (Approx.) Service Centers: 2 Comprehensive Reproductive Health Care Center (CRHCC), 12 Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC) 144 Satellite Centers. 2 Evening Clinics. 2 Mini- Clinics & 2 Eye Care Centers We are providing all service free for more than 30% population (identified by Base Line Household Survey) of our catchment area. We also provide full free services in HIV/AIDS Prevention & Tuberculosis Control. We have established referral linkage with GOVT. and Non-GOVT. organization. |
